Paper-engineering
(including pop up books) is a source of endless fascination
to me, and I love producing this kind of work. Any paper-engineer
worthy of the name can make wonderful things happen with bits
of folded card, but the process can be expensive - both in
its use of materials and in assembly.
Every fold, every glue point, every hand operation costs
money, and so commercial viability depends upon being
able to design mechanisms that are both cheap and effective.
An efficient and minimalist approach is necessary - as
with any form of engineering - and it's this challenge
that I find most satisfying; maximum effect at minimum
cost.
Most of the examples here are illustrated by me. 'Humpty
Dumpty' is illustrated by Moira Kemp.
